It was a sad night at the McCarroll house! We were walking out of the house to go to Kevin's basketball game and Duke, our dog got hit by a truck. We saw the whole thing happen. I saw him across the rode and told Kevin that he was going to get hit and yep...the dang dog ran right in front of the truck. Neither of them saw it coming or could do anything to stop it. It killed him instantly. Of course I started crying uncontrollably. Joselyn just looked at me so confused. We were afraid that this was going to happen because the darn dog loved to go to the other side of the road. Even though he tore my front screen door, trashed my yard and jumped all of the time, I will miss him so much. He was such a good little protector. The nights that I would be home by myself, I knew that Duke would warn and protect me from anyone coming near. The spoiled dog slept in our house at night. This last week I've been getting up a lot so I would go get a drink in the kitchen. He would always wake up and come check on me. A couple of nights ago I told him to go back to sleep and about 10 minutes later I walked by and he was sprawled out and was snoring. He loved playing out with all of the animals, especially the pigs. He would push his back up next to the fence and they would nibble on his back. It probably felt like a good back scratch. Joselyn loved Duke. She would always ask her daddy to let him in the house so he could play "Ashes" (Ring around the rosie) with her. Many times, all four of us would have to play ashes. Duke loved it when we would all fall down because then he could wrestle us. Well...I'll stop with my sobb story. :) Hope everyone has a great day.

That's too bad that you guys were out there to see it happen. At least Joselyn isn't old enough to understand what happened. I think it's easier when they are little and you don't have to try and explain things like that.
